Job Summary

The Administrative Director of Information Technology provides enterprise-wide leadership and strategic direction for the health system’s information technology functions. Responsible for ensuring technology, information systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, clinical and business applications, data capabilities, and digital solutions effectively support the health system’s clinical, operational, financial, and strategic objectives. Serving as the health system’s senior information technology leader, the Admin Director partners with executive leadership, physicians, clinical leaders, operational departments, and external partners to establish technology priorities, optimize existing systems, evaluate emerging technologies, and execute the organization’s long-term information technology strategy. Accountable for the reliability, security, performance, financial stewardship, and strategic development of the health system’s technology environment and serves as a key leader in major technology transformation initiatives, including Electronic Health Record (EHR) strategy and optimization.

Responsibilities

Strategic & Executive Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise information technology strategy aligned with the health system’s strategic and financial priorities
  • Serve as the senior information technology advisor to the COO, CEO, executive leadership team, and other organizational leaders
  • Translate organizational strategy and operational needs into technology priorities, roadmaps, and measurable initiatives
  • Participate in enterprise strategic planning, capital planning, operational improvement, and technology governance
  • Provide executive leadership with recommendations regarding technology investments, risks, emerging technologies, and long-term infrastructure needs
  • Develop and maintain an IT governance structure that prioritizes projects based on clinical impact, operational value, financial return, regulatory requirements, risk, and organizational capacity

EHR & Clinical Information Systems

  • Provide executive leadership for the health system’s EHR strategy, including optimization, modernization, replacement evaluation, implementation, and long-term planning
  • Ensure clinical information systems effectively support physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, ambulatory services, and patient care operations
  • Partner with clinical and operational leadership to improve workflows and reduce unnecessary administrative burden through technology
  • Establish standards for system optimization, integration, interoperability, and application lifecycle management
  • Oversee relationships with EHR and other major clinical technology vendors

Information Technology Operations

  • Provide leadership and accountability for enterprise technology operations, including:
    • Network and infrastructure
    • Servers, cloud services, and data centers
    • End-user computing and technical support
    • Telecommunications
    • Clinical and business applications
    • Interfaces and interoperability
    • IT service management/help desk
    • Business continuity and disaster recovery
    • Technology asset management
    • Establish performance standards, service-level expectations, and accountability measures for IT operations
    • Maintain appropriate system availability, reliability, scalability, and performance to support 24/7 health care operations

Cybersecurity, Privacy & Risk

  • Provide executive oversight of the health system’s cybersecurity program and technology-related risk management
  • Maintain appropriate safeguards for electronic protected health information and other sensitive organizational information
  • Partner with Compliance, Privacy, Legal, Risk Management, and operational leadership to maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Oversee cybersecurity risk assessments, incident response planning, vulnerability management, access controls, disaster recovery, and business continuity preparedness
  • Regularly communicate significant technology and cybersecurity risks to executive leadership

Data, Analytics & Digital Transformation

  • Advance the organization’s use of data, analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies to improve clinical, operational, and financial performance
  • Establish appropriate governance for data and emerging technologies
  • Partner with operational and clinical leaders to identify opportunities for automation and workflow improvement
  • Support development of reliable enterprise reporting and decision-support capabilities
  • Ensure technology initiatives produce measurable organizational value rather than simply introducing additional technology

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital budgets
  • Establish multi-year technology capital plans and replacement schedules
  • Evaluate the financial and operational return of significant technology investments
  • Lead or participate in vendor selection, contracting, negotiations, and performance management
  • Identify opportunities to reduce technology costs through standardization, consolidation, renegotiation, and elimination of redundant applications and services
  • Establish accountability for vendor performance, contractual obligations, implementation milestones, and return on investment

Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing information technology leadership team and workforce
  • Establish clear expectations for responsiveness, customer service, accountability, communication, and project execution
  • Develop succession plans and professional development opportunities for IT leaders and staff
  • Promote collaboration between Information Technology and clinical, financial, and operational departments
  • Maintain a service-oriented culture in which IT functions as an organizational partner rather than an isolated technical department

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Health Administration, or related discipline preferred

Experience

  • Experience with digital transformation, automation, artificial intelligence, analytics, and enterprise technology governance preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing significant operating and capital budgets preferred
  • Experience negotiating major technology contracts and managing strategic vendor relationships preferred

Licensure/Certification
